Armed and dangerous

One man leaves an embarrassing legacy at the new Bourne film, two men make off with a whole bunch of canaries and a robbery aggravated by bug spray

Put your hands in the air or I'll shoot! That warning would have been a lot more threatening to a mosquito than it was to the patrons of a restaurant an unidentified man tried to rob, armed with a can of insect repellent. Threatening or not, his weapon of choice was effective. The bartender told police he attempted to knock the can out of the robber's hands but was rewarded with a shot of bug spray to the face. The robber then grabbed cash out of the register and fled. He has not been caught. I'd be afraid to find him, armed and dangerous as he is. I hope the local ant colonies have been warned.

I thought I saw a putty tat! Sadly, no. That actually was a couple of robbers out bird hunting. Two men broke into the home of an 87-year old Florida man and stole his 500 canaries. They sold the birds, valued at $30 apiece, to a few local pet stores. Police recovered about 150 of the canaries. I'm still having a hard time understanding how two men successfully moved 500 canaries out of a little old man's home without anyone noticing. It's not like they could just fly away.

Have you ever smelled something so enticing you couldn't resist stealing it? Me either. But that's the story that 27-year-old David Allan Thompson of Charleroi, Pa. is going with. Thompson is charged with stealing pot from the police station as an officer was entering it into evidence. When asked why he took it, Thompson, "I just couldn't help myself. That bud smelled so good." Yeah, he might want to rethink his story before heading to court.

The Bourne Legacy is an exciting, action packed flick. But it got a little bit too exciting at one showing in Sparks, Nev. when a man, legally carrying a sidearm, accidentally shot himself in the buttox during the film. The man, who had a permit to carry the weapon, is recovering well and says the pistol fell from his pocket when he moved in his seat. Thankfully, no one else was injured. Now, I could be wrong, but I don't think Jason Bourne or Aaron Cross would ever accidentally shoot themselves, let alone in the behind. That's one legacy no one wants to leave behind.
